Alopecia Reduction
In a private consultation with Dr. Anderson, each patient's individual needs are evaluated and the most applicable procedures recommended. Considerations are the patient's age, hair texture, color, amount and pattern of hair loss, and realistic goals of restoration. Procedures take place in Dr. Anderson's own surgical suite which is AAAHC accredited for maximum safety and hygiene. Patients are given local anesthetic and may be placed under IV sedation. He is assisted by a highly trained and caring staff.
Only a decade ago, many people seeking hair transplantation were not considered good candidates because their hair loss conditions were too extensive. However, with the recent introduction of baldness reducing techniques, such as scalp reduction, those same people can now be treated effectively.
Alopecia reduction procedures decrease or virtually eliminate the bald area of the scalp - typically at the crown - reducing the size of the area to be filled with grafts. To achieve the desired result, multiple procedures may be needed - depending on the procedures performed and the size of the bald area. Although recovery time is relatively short (seven to 10 days), these procedures are often spaced several months apart to allow the scalp's laxity to return to normal.
