Blepharoplasty (Eye Lid) Surgery
The aging eye has specific problems both above and below the eye, each treated differently.
The Eye Lift, or Blepharoplasty, minimizes the excess skin, wrinkles, and fat pads
around the eye. Since no other procedure rejuvenates the eye so effectively, patients often combine an eye lift
with other procedures such as a face lift
for more complete facial rejuvenation.
In the upper blepharoplasty, a fine incision is made in the crease of the upper lid.
Loose skin and fat are removed and then carefully sutured. Dr. Anderson takes special
care to remove the exact amount
of skin so a natural-looking, more youthful result is achieved. The lower eyelid incision is usually made from the inside
of the lower lid. A pinch of skin may also be taken. Excess fat, which causes under eye bags, is removed to tighten and
firm.
IV sedation will be used and can be as light or as heavy as each individual requires for their eye lift.
The skin around the eye heals especially quickly. Dissolving sutures are used. Dr. Anderson will examine the patient
a day or two after surgery to make sure everything is healing properly. Cold compresses will help minimize swelling and
bruising. Patients are usually up and around in a day or two. Swelling and bruising may remain for up to a week or so,
and is most noticeable for the first week.
The final results of an eye lift are a rested, more youthful appearance
with excess skin and bags around the eye reduced. Individual results vary according to each individual's age, skin type,
healing ability and other factors. Improvement in appearance is often quite dramatic.
Born and raised in Seattle, WA, Dr. Anderson was recently voted among America's Top Physicians by the Consumers' Research Council of America.
