What to Expect from an Eyelid Lift
The aging eye has specific problems both above and below the eye, each treated differently. Upper Eyelid Surgery
In an upper blepharoplasty, a fine incision is made in the crease of the upper lid, where it is barely visible. Through this incision, loose flaps of skin and pockets of fat are carefully removed. Dr. Sobel takes special care to remove a precise amount of skin so a natural-looking, more youthful result is achieved. Once Dr. Sobel has achieved the desired results, he will suture and dress the incision.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
To address puffiness, lines, or sagging under the eye, a lower blepharoplasty will provide the best results. To access this area, Dr. Sobel will place an incision just inside the lower eyelid, completely hidden from view. Excess fat, which causes “under-eye bags,” is removed to tighten and firm.
Most eyelid lift procedures are performed with local anesthetic and IV sedation, adjusted for each individual patient. The skin around the eye typically heals quickly, and Dr. Sobel uses dissolving sutures to further promote a speedy recovery. Dr. Sobel will examine you a day or two after surgery to make sure everything is healing properly and discuss any concerns or questions you may have about your recovery.
After your procedure, you will experience some sensitivity, swelling, and bruising in the areas around your eyes. Cold compresses will help minimize swelling and bruising and you should expect to be up and around in a day or two. Swelling and bruising may remain for up to a week and is most noticeable for the first few days.
The final result of an eye lift is a rested, more youthful appearance with a noticeable reduction in excess skin and bags around the eye.
