Male Blepharoplasty

If you feel discouraged by signs of aging around your eyes, blepharoplasty—also known as eyelid surgery—can significantly improve your appearance. Eyelid surgery addresses excess skin, wrinkles, and fatty deposits around the eyelids to create an alert and more youthful appearance. If you are concerned that you look tired or angry even when you feel fine, eyelid surgery can help convey a more positive appearance and attitude.

Why Is Eyelid Surgery Different For Men?

Blepharoplasty is becoming increasingly popular for men who want to improve the appearance of their face. The shape and contour of male eyebrows and eyelids are different than women, and men tend to have thicker skin and heavier facial muscles. These factors affect how surgery should be approached, and the best results are achieved when working with a surgeon who understands male facial features. As a board certified cosmetic surgeon with many years of male cosmetic surgery experience, Dr. Sobel can help you achieve a tighter, more youthful look with eyelid surgery.

How is Blepharoplasty Performed?

Once you are properly sedated, Dr. Sobel will make a small, inconspicuous incision in the crease of the upper eyelid. He will then precisely remove loose skin and excess fat, taking care to work with your natural anatomy. Once the desired results have been achieved, he will carefully suture the area. For a lower blepharoplasty, another incision is made from the inside of the lower lid through which excess fat is removed, often along with a pinch of skin to reduce puffiness under the eye.

Blepharoplasty recovery is comfortable for most patients. The skin around the eye heals quickly, and Dr. Sobel uses dissolving sutures to further promote a smooth recovery. Applying a cold compress can minimize swelling and bruising and patients often go back to low-impact activities within a day or two. Soon the skin around your eyes will appear noticeably tighter, less puffy, and more youthful.

Who is a Good Candidate For Eyelid Surgery?

Men who are in good health and feel that the skin around their eyes is droopy, puffy, or sagging may be excellent candidates for eyelid surgery. Patients should be non-smokers (or quit several weeks before and after surgery), be healthy enough to undergo IV sedation, and have a positive attitude about how eyelid surgery can help them look and feel more confident.
